DARIAH Day @ UZH: 18 December 2017
DARIAH Day is a one day workshop intended to introduce the Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities (DARIAH) to the linguistic community in Zurich. The workshop will focus on the #dariahTeach platform, which was created through the funding of an ERASMUS+ strategic partnership to test modules for open-source, high-quality, multilingual teaching materials for the digital arts and humanities.
The aim of the strategic partnership between ERASMUS+ and #dariahTeach is the development of open-source accessible, high-quality, multilingual teaching materials for the Digital Humanities (the official term of the project is "DARIAH Reference Curriculum"). Another purpose of the project is to promote innovative teaching methods of DARIAH-Network members.
Further information to #dariahTeach you may find here.
The launch of the Learning Platform of #dariahTeach took place in Lausanne on 23 March 2017. The platform provides open source-materials on various topics such as Text Encoding Initiative (TEI), Sound Studies or Digitizing Dictionaries. The service is continuously extended.
DH Registry Courses
The aim of the DH Course Registry project is to promote the development of DH seminars and to provide a platform for these. This is a joint project between CLARIN and DARIAH. The infrastructure includes a list of selected courses by European academic institutions. The database can be searched through by disciplines, places, ECTS credits or academic degrees connected to it.
In Switzerland, the responsible person for the project is Dr. Claire Clivaz as National Moderator.
In autumn 2014, all European countries took part in an inquiry regarding the application for digital methods and practices. The inquiry was carried out by the DARIAH Working Group Digital Methods and Practices Observatory (DiMPO). Thanks to the commitment of experts - meanwhile six institutions are associated members of DARIAH-EU, Switzerland not being a regular member yet - Switzerland received 197 replies - a really significant result. Of 16 nations participating in the inquiry, Switzerland achieved 4th place. A total of 2000 replies were obtained. The countries having received more than 100 replies were asked to write their chapter for the report. The Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAHS) agreed to write the chapter on behalf of Switzerland. The working group presented a report from a European point of view as well.
The inquiry addresses a rash of topics in the field of digital research practice: What access to research items and sources is preferred? How is the real research work presented? Which digital tools and services are in use? How are research results diffused? What are the needs of researchers in Switzerland as to the digital research field?
