La 5ème conférence biennale du CRG en histoire africaine aura lieu du 18 au 20 juin 2020, reçue et organisée par le Centre d'Études Africaines à Leiden, Pays-Bas.

Format de la conférence

Le format de nos conférences repose sur des tables rondes thématiques d'une heure et demi comprenant trois à cinq intervenant.e.s. Ces tables rondes seront l'occasion de discussions sur chacun des sujets avec l'audience, en réaction aux brefs essais présentés par les participant.e.s, laissant bien assez de temps pour une discussion générale. Notez bien que ces tables rondes ne sont en aucun cas le lieu adéquat pour présenter un papier ! Elles constituent une plateforme afin d'étendre la discussion. La conférence ne comprend qu'une présentation principale : « La passionnante conférence en Histoire africaine ». Notez s'il vous plaît que l'organisation de la conférence n'est pas en mesure de prendre en charge les trajets ni l'hébergement des participant.e.s, à l'exception de ceux du ou de la « passionnant.e conférencier/ère ».

Appel à tables rondes

Nous appelons tous et toutes les membres du CRG à proposer des tables rondes. Les propositions devront comprendre une présentation du sujet d'une longueur de 300 mots ainsi que les noms de trois à cinq participant.e.s ayant confirmé leur présence. Appel à nominations pour « la passionnante conférence en Histoire africaine »

Pour des raisons perdues à jamais pour la postérité, il a été décidé que l'unique présentation de la conférence biennale du CRG serait nommée « la passionnante conférence en Histoire africaine ». La présentation durera environ 30 minutes, suivies de 30 minutes de discussion. Nous appelons toutes et tous les membres du CRG à désigner un.e académicien.ne pour mener cette présentation. Est éligible tout.e académicien.ne ayant récemment publié ou présenté un nouveau livre, une nouvelle idée passionnante, ou autres nouveaux travaux innovants qui mériteraient notre attention. La position académique du/de la candidat.e ne porte aucun importance, c’est la qualité qui compte. Un comité scientifique sélectionnera et invitera le/la conférencier/ère parmi les désignations proposées. Les auto-nominations ne seront pas considérées. L'organisation de la conférence prendra en charge les coûts relatifs au voyage et à l'hébergement du/de la conférencier/ère invité.e. Les désignations devront nous parvenir avant le 31 décembre 2019. Le Centre d'Études Africaines à Leiden a généreusement offert d'accueillir la conférence et prendra en charge une partie des frais induits. Les potentielles sources externes de financement ne sont pas encore confirmées. Nous devrons donc éventuellement demander une petite contribution financière sous la forme de frais d'inscription. Nous vous en tiendrons bien sûr informé.e.s au fur et à mesure que nous avancerons dans l'organisation.

The 5th Biennial CRG African History Conference, hosted and organised by the African Studies Centre, Leiden, The Netherlands, will take place on June 18-20 2020.

Conference format

Our conference format centres on opinionated thematic roundtables with three to five speakers, lasting one and a half hours each. Roundtables should invite discussion of the topic at hand with the wider conference audience through a series of brief essayist presentations of larger ideas by the roundtable participants, leaving ample time for general discussion. Please note that it is not at all the intention of these roundtables to serve as a space to present papers. They serve as platforms for wider discussion. The conference includes only one key lecture: "The Exciting Lecture on African History". Please note that the conference organisation will not be able to finance travel or accommodation for any of the participants except the "Exciting Lecturer".

Call for roundtables

We call upon all CRG members to propose roundtables. Proposals should include a 300-word presentation of the topic, and the names of three to five confirmed participants. A scientific committee will select between 4 and 6 roundtables. Please send your proposal before 31 December 2019 to: crgafricanhistory@gmail.com

Call for nominations "Exciting Lecture on African History"

For reasons lost forever to posterity it has been decided to call the one biennial lecture at the CRG conference "The Exciting Lecture on African History". The lecture shall take about 30 minutes, with a further 30 minutes for discussion. We call upon all CRG members to nominate a scholar to present this lecture. Eligible for nomination are all those scholars who have recently published or otherwise presented an exciting new book, idea, theory or other path-breaking new work that merits our further attention. The academic rank of the proposed lecturer is of no importance, only content counts. A scientific committee will select and invite the speaker from the proposed nominations. Auto-nominations will not be considered. The conference organisation will pay the travel and accommodation expenses of the invited speaker. Nominations should reach us before 31 December 2019. The African Studies Centre Leiden has generously offered conference accommodation and will carry part of the conference costs. At this point in time it is unclear to what further extent the conference will be financed by external sources. It may therefore be that we need to raise a small conference fee. We will of course keep you informed as we proceed in the organisation.
