The SSMEIC supports and promotes research on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), as well as on the various expressions of Islam in Switzerland and elsewhere. Founded in 1990, it has been a member of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences since 1995.

The SSMEIC offers researchers mentoring in scientific communication and strives to make research output on the Middle East and its connections with Europe accessible to a wider public.

Open Access Archiving: Mission Accomplished

The open-access archiving of the "Bulletin" and the "Almanach" is now complete. Articles published since 1995 have been assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and are now easily accessible online through a search engine.
