The SSMEIC supports and promotes research on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), as well as the various expressions and practices of Islam in Switzerland and around the world. It fosters collaboration among researchers and endeavours to make their research outcomes accessible to both the academic community and the general public. Founded in 1990, the SSMEIC has been a member of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences since 1995.
