We are pleased to invite you to an encounter and talk with the Lebanese author and comics designer Lena Merhej, whose artwork has been praised and gained international attention since 2007. This talk takes place in the frame of the 75th Jubilee anniversary of the Swiss Academic Society for Human and Social Sciences (SAGW). The talk will take place on Saturday 17 September 2022 at 3.30 p.m. at the Place de la Gare, Bern (Stand No. 4).

Lena Merhej (PhD) has drew and wrote more than 35 Comics in Arabic and is one of the founders of the comic collective Samandal. She used to teach illustration and animation at the American University of Beirut. She wrote her thesis on the narration of the Civil war in Lebanese comics at the Jacobs University in Germany which she presented in 2015.

The theme of war has been an ongoing motive throughout her artwork, since her first comic published in 2006, "Je pense qu'à la prochaine guerre on sera mieux préparé". She won prices and international recognition from the New York Film Festival, the Festival de la bande dessinée d'Alger (FIBDA), the Mahmoud Kahil Award and so on.
