Project description
The ‘Linguistics for Upper Secondary Schools’ project was supported by the SSG/SSL for several years and has now received an Agora project funding by the Swiss National Science Foundation, awarded to Noah Bubenhofer (Universität Zürich), Didier Maillat (Université de Zürich) and Christoph Hottiger (Gymnasium Alpenquai, Luzern). Its aim is to integrate language sciences more fully into the curriculum of Swiss secondary schools. The goal is to help pupils develop a deeper understanding of language and its social relevance. It addresses questions such as: How do we name people who have to flee? How do digital media influence language and interactions? Why are conspiracy theories so attractive and how can we identify them? How do advertising measures, such as social media influencers, shape consumer society?
The project plans on developing a website of open educational resources under a Creative Commons licence. This platform will provide teachers with resources for tackling linguistic subjects in the classroom. The site offers curated linguistic data, basic scientific information, didactically prepared modules and links to useful resources.
