This interdisciplinary Conference addresses the impact of the First Vatican Council (1869/70) on the churches in the context of the rise of nationalism. The immediate aftermath of the Council and the years leading up to the First World War proved some of the most formative in the realignment of Christianity across Europe and the wider world with the consolidation of the Old Catholic Movement as well as new ecumenical initiatives from the Orthodox, Anglican and Protestant Churches.
