Introducing Ethnographic Imagination - Basel

SEG News

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to announce the launch of Ethnographic Imagination Basel (EIB) – a podcast series on reimagining the world from the mundane.

EIB is produced by the Institute of Social Anthropology at the University of Basel. Part of a research, educational, and public engagement initiative exploring innovative forms of political imagination through ethnographic practice, the podcast promotes ethnography not only as a tool of scholarly research but also as a mode of imagination available to all— a means for pursuing deeper intercultural, contextual understanding and more ethical ways of being in the world. EIB explores how ethnographic imagination is used for grasping emerging trends in the global political and economic order as well as the politics of culture and society.

The first episode, On Possibility, features Anand Pandian, Professor and Chair in the Department of Anthropology at Johns Hopkins University.

Vaibhav Saria, Assistant Professor of Gender Sexuality and Women`s Studies at Simon Fraser University, is our guest on episode two, On Normativity.

Our third episode, On Death, is with Larisa Jašarević, Anthropologist and Independent Scholar.

Peter Geschiere, Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, is our guest on theepisode, On Intimacy.

On Memory, is our most recent episode with Jennifer Cole, Professor and Chair, Department of Comparative Human Development and Chair, Committee on African Studies, University of Chicago.

Future episodes to be launched throughout 2023 will take on the topics of birthing, dance and listening.

We invite you to join us as we embark on moments of discovery through inspiring, informative, thought-provoking and entertaining discussions with anthropologists worldwide.
